Hey all... before the Big Rush aka the SATURDAY of DOOM aka 20th Dec, when many different people are going to have to emcee due to concurrent shows, I should do a short post about emcee-ing that hopefully will be helpful to you guys ^^

1) Write down the names of the songs and carry the list onstage... and write down keywords of random stuff that you may want to talk about in between songs to drag time (and so our caroling isn't just a song showcase). Wouldn't recommend writing whole scripts tho, so you'd be more natural, but this depends on your own style!

2) Relax =) Breathe deeply... practice being onstage more often so you can attempt to stifle stage fright. xD And slow down... no need to rush or get too excited!

3) The people watching you are Normal People! That means they won't bite you if you slip up... but it also means they respond to what you're saying, so try to make sure they're not bored! Say something interesting, talk TO them and not at them or worse, at your script... connect with them and make sure you're making it worth their while to be listening to you =)

4) We are Caroling = Spreading the Christmas Spirit. NOT showing off that we can sing very well. NOT being forced to come onstage. Remember, we have a job to do, and it's not just to sing nicely, it's to make people happy! That is why we're getting paid, even though not all of us are very good singers! But as long as we smile at people and sing to them and try to make them happy, we are doing our job ^^

5) Keep track of time, which you will realize necessitates some crap-talking! Haha but seriously just reading out the names of songs will not stretch a show for half an hour. More importantly, it makes the show kinda flat and one-dimensional, because there's like almost zero audience connection. So please think of something to say to entertain the audience. Not too long, but just to give some buffer time between songs.

Ok that's it. Lol. I don't often get to hear people emcee-ing (cos despite my ultimate cringeworthy emcee-ing comments on the first Taka show, Jeremy still put me as emcee for all my subsequent shows... zz) but recently I have and realized that okay maybe I should put this up so More People can emcee and improve I suppose! Hope it helps!

*** Punctuality of singers. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Do not be late for any shows. If you are late for 1min or a few hrs, please sms the I/C of the day. Do not let us call you repeatedly! Please be responsible for your own actions, we do not want irresponsible singers in TAS YV. We know if it is an afternoon show it maybe difficult for your to wake up early in the morning to meet. If you know you have problems waking up early, kindly ask any of your close friends or even family to wake you up. 1 person being late, may lead to the whole group missing rehearsals or even soundcheck. ~Boon Wei Signing off~ HOW TO JUGGLE NS AND TAS

Hello everyone, it'll be my first time blogging here and I hope you'll just bear with what will probably be mostly pictureless posts from me (being a technophobe and all). Anyway, for you guys entering, or have already entered, NS, here are some tips that might help you as it did me.

1. Make sure your Commanding Officer likes you. He'll be more inclined to give you time-off or approve your leave that way. Doesn't matter if he's totally ****-up.

2. Make sure your colleages like you too. They'll be more inclined to cover or stand in for you if a need arises. And let them know early if you have a show coming up, especially if you need their help to cover your duties.

3. Save on taxi fare. And remember to ask for receipts. (Painfull experience here....) Oh, and save the Dial-A-Cab number in your handphone.

4.Do not land yourself with extra guard duties.

5. Keep in constant contact with Cindy =) ( I think I nearly drove her insane. Sorry Cinch!)

6.Earn as many off days as possible. Quite useful if you can take time-off on days after the shows too (so you can hang out and have dinner till late at night with those few who can only go home after a certain hour:P)

7. Quite useful to tell your SL or Jeremy where your camp is, allowing them to gauge how much time you need to get to a particular location. Like Takashimaya or DowntownEast.

8. If you can help it, get a vocation that doesn't need you to stay-in. If you can't help it, break your leg to confirm yourself a vocation in which you don't need to stay in ( Disclaimer: A JOKE!)

9. Get a driving licence and a car. If you can't, befriend a member of your unit who has a driving licence and a car.

10. And finally, the most important tip in trying to juggle TaS and Ns...... get enough sleep. Oh yes. You can't juggle anything if you're snoring away. It's quite impossible. Sleeping during work gets you extra guard duties. Sleeping during practices gets you no where and sleeping during shows gets you an extremely embarrassing moment in your life.


So there it is. Most guys should find this useful. Most girls should find this amusing. If you aren't like most guys or girls, you'll find this lame.

Btw, I'm typing this just two hours after finishing my 24 hour guard duty. I should never have drunk RedBull cuz now I can't get to sleep.
